Bass Family Bible
My item I chose for this project is a family Bible. This Bible originates from my dad’s side with my great grandpa. It shows and symbolizes how our family has always prioritized religion as the main perspective of our lives. My great grandpa grew up during the Great Depression. He was born to a family of nine in Ringgold, Virginia. The owned a farm and they didn’t have much except their faith. My great grandpa served in the US army air corp during World War Two. Oral family stories tell how the words from the Bible sustained them during the hardest times. It not only sustained them but it taught them to work hard, trust in things you cannot see and to live for a great purpose than yourself. Inside the Bible there are notes to go with certain scriptures that illustrate these points. Pages that have been heavily worn show how studying the Bible has meant a lot for my family. Or how words on a page come to life to give one a sense of peace in times of uncertainty. Worn pages and binding also shows that it has been the foundation for our family. The Bible originated with my great grandpa, then my great uncle then my dad. Today it sits on the entrance table by our front door. It's a visual reminder of our faith and how far we have come. Plus we are fortunate to have a family heirloom like a Bible because we have religious freedom. It shows what it is like to be an American by having religious freedom unlike other countries. America has given inclusion by religion.
