For my family artifact, I chose bagels. Bagels are a stable food for Jews. Originating in the 13th century, bagels are pretty old. When Germans migrated to Poland, they brought pretzel dough with them to make pretzels. The Jews in Poland took this bread and modified the pretzel to create the bagel. The bagel is an easy-to-prepare food with an array of flavors. Additionally, there are tons of ingredients to add to the bagel. If you were not already able to tell, the bagel is a very customizable food. My favorite bagel consists of butter, cream cheese, avocado, ham, and turkey. Sometimes I will also put eggs on a bagel. To me, a bagel is an everyday food. I usually eat one for breakfast or lunch, but sometimes I eat a bagel for dinner. Bagels are also a great food for grubbing/bulking because you can add tons of toppings and load it with calories. Additionally, on Yom Kippur, my family also eats bagels among other foods to break the fast. We do this every year. Overall, the bagel is an excellent food for bulking and tastes amazing, there are many ways to make a good bagel, is my favorite food, is one of the foods my family eats to break the Yom Kippur fast, and is a popular food in the Jewish community.
