I am from in Haiti. I came to the US in 2012. This was a good experience for me. Before I came here, I had a book that was very important to me. The name of book is the Constitution of the Republic of Haiti. It is fairly small with a red and blue cover. It reminds me of my dad talking about the story of my native country. This book talks about Haitian history. This book talks about the military story in my country and how the soldiers fought to make my country great. In 1991 all of the soldiers left the countryside to go to the capital to talk with the government to defend the population. For example, the soldiers asked the government for roads, electricity and good education. I need this book because it helped me to connect with my traditions. When I was in Haiti every January 1st the military had a parade to celebrate Independence. The military would go to the church cemetery and leave flowers to memorialize the soldiers who died. This book reminds me of my Dad’s experience when he was in the military which helps me to connect with my country. He died in 1996.
