I have a 22 wmr Winchester rifle that was my grandpa's gun that he purchased from the old sears in Hilo. Here in Ka’u, many families pass down hunting skills and hunting tools such as guns, dog breeds, and trails. My grandpa was impressed by its nice walnut wood gunstock which gives it a nice look and feel. But my grandpa didn't like the rifle because it kept jamming on him when he hunted and he also had bad aim with that gun too. So, he slammed it on the ground and now there's a big gash that is hard to miss. My grandpa gave my dad this gun because he was ready to sell it. Fast forward after 45 years and we still use it to this day to go hunting and now that same gun is worth 1500$ in good condition because they are antiques now and that same gun is what my dad killed his first pig with. This symbolically reminds us that the value of any object depends on the person who puts time into it and takes the time to learn to familiarize with it. Like my dad – he learned to synchronize with the tools by learning how to operate that gun and then taught me how to work it. Now, we use it on every hunting trip. We oil it and clean it after every hunt. At the end of the day, it is important for me to take time to learn not only how to use the tool, but to take the time and listen to somebody who is already skilled and use the knowledge that you learned on that specific thing.
