Wooden Tray
The biggest part of Bengali culture—and the trait most prominent in Bengali people is hospitality. It is the one thing I believe will never be taken away from me.
Being hospitable is something I will always strive to uphold. That is why I chose a hand-made wooden tray from Bangladesh: the same tray my grandmother had stuffed into my suitcase, the same tray that has served hundreds of guests in our home.
The wood of the tray was taken from a tree in my late grandfather’s village, each intricate design carrying a piece of my heritage. This tray is more than just an object. It is a reminder that generosity will always define my family and me.
No matter the blood relation, or even if it is a complete stranger, everyone is always offered at least tea and biscuits. Rarely does a day go by without guests joining us for a meal. Hospitality preserves our relationships and strengthens our bonds, that is the enduring purpose of the wooden tray.
