Winchester model 90
My object is a gun that has been handed down in my family for five generations. The gun is a Winchester model 90 .22 long rifle. This specific rifle was manufactured in 1923, most likely in New Haven, Connecticut. It's just a thin, long rifle with gun grey metal and a dark wooden stock and grip. Sometime over 150 years ago, my ancestors moved from Tennessee to Runnels Co. Texas with the intent of starting a fresh new life. Roughly 100 years ago my great-great grandfather, Douglas Aldridge, bought a 1923 Winchester model 90 .22 long rifle. Douglas had 13 children over the course of 20 years and his youngest were twins Amos, and Amos. When my great grandad, Amon, returned from fighting in World War II in response to Pearl Harbor, he got married in 1946. The gun was gifted to him to remember where everything started. Amon had my grandad, David, and one daughter, Amy. When my grandad was just 12 years old, Amon gifted him this rifle. My grandad kept the gun for a majority of its lifetime, almost 50 years, until he continued the tradition and handed it down to my dad, Chace. When my brother was born in March of 2006, just months after, Amon could see his first grandchild. My dad, brother and I hope to continue the tradition of handing down more than a gun, but an idea and tradition that our family was built on.
