Vinyl records are a traditional part of my family and culture. Vinyl has been a cultural relic for black music, and it dates to the 1940's. Black people have a deep connection to music and even created their own style called soul music. Black entertainers are able to capture emotion in their work. Some genres in vinyl records include jazz, blues, country, moder day rap, and even comedy. My family also has a history with vinyl records. For generations we've passed down records to our children and grandchildren. We keep these in remembrance of ancestors; we also can hear what entertainers your ancestors' favorites were. My great grandparents' favorites were Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and Cab Calloway. My grandparents' favorites are Earth Wind & Fire, Teddy Pendergrass, and Richard Pryor. And my parents' favorites are Lauryn Hill, Usher, and Jay-Z. I've had all these musical experiences through vinyl over my lifetime and hope to continue this legacy for generations to come.
