Traditional Burmese dress
I’ve had this dress for almost a year now. This Burmese traditional dress is the dress I performed in with my group and I’ve been doing traditional Burmese dancing since I was little. The first time I ever did it, I enjoyed it a lot. I wanted to do it every year, perform every year and each year I danced we would usually get a new dress. I don’t have them now, only the recent one. This dress means a lot to me and it’s something I’m proud of. It represents who I am and the beauty of my culture. I’ve always wanted to share my culture with other people and represent it. I want people to experience what I experience and feel the joy that I feel when I dance. With this dress, I want people to see the elegance of Myanmar, my country, and my culture. When I am down or feel upset, I remember the fun times I would have with my dance group when we would learn a new move for the dance. I remember spending hours just practicing with each other and asking each other “How do you do this part of the dance?” Then teach each other. We would practice in the basement of a Burmese market in St. Paul and every time we had a break, we would go upstairs and buy childhood snacks when we’re hungry. This Burmese traditional dance dress has brought a lot of good memories and holds a lot of value. It reminds me of what I love and who I am.
