A Purple Brooch

The artifact that is most important to me is my purple brooch. I first saw it at a pile of jewelry that was considered my "inheritance." It caught my eye but I thought - is it really a brooch?. After I came back to the U.S. after a long trip visiting home in Uzbekistan, My family had a get together which we do every other month with our family friends. When I opened my jewelry box and saw the brooch there, It made me remember my grandma and I decided to use it. Ever since that day it’s been my favorite jewelry because I always use to see my grandma use it.
According to the NYC division of planning, 37% of New Yorkers were foreign born.  In those 37% are my parents, who came to the U.S from Uzbekistan in 2010 chasing the American dream. The brooch really connected me to both my grandma and my home country, just as how my brooch adds to a larger outfit. Immigrants also add their culture, traditions, and talents to NYC, making it diverse.
