The Puerto Rican Flag
The Puerto Rican flag is a symbol I strongly identify with my cultural heritage. When I see it hanging in neighborhoods or parts of wall art, I always take a picture. At one point in history, owning or displaying a Puerto Rican flag in Puerto Rico was illegal. Now there are countless Puerto Rican flags throughout New York City and Puerto Rico. Capturing the images of these flags is special to me because it shows we are here and thriving. It is a sign of family and community. This particular display of the flag is special because it is accompanied by the word "pa’lante", which means “go forward” or “keep going”. It is a message of hope and reassurance.
