My family's traditional object is a bottle of holy oil; a sacred oil that has been a part of my family for decades and more. Holy oil was passed down from my great grandmother back in 1955 from her mother when she first was baptized. Traditionally, the oil is made from olive oil and is blessed and anointed through prayer.   

The way to anoint the oil is to start with praying to let the holy spirit come in and bless the oil for it to work, so it can carry the spiritual strength and purpose we need. Anointed oil is used for many different thing's prayer, baptism, baby dedications, in food for healing the mind soul and body.     

  Over the years, I started to recognize how important this oil was and what it meant. I would always see my grandmother praying with the oil in her hand and on her forehead. She would anoint everyone's head and whisper words of faith, and you could just feel the protection if you were a believer. I didn't completely understand until I was finding my own way through life and building my own relationship with God and using the oil. It was a reminder that not only was God the main connection, but we all had the same foundation which stemmed from the oil and our trust in God.   

  I plan to carry this oil down to my children's generation and their children's generation. Making sure they always feel the same faith, love, and protection. I will make sure that no matter what happens, I will teach my kids and generations after to always pray over the oil before using it.
