The Family Grand Piano

The object I chose that holds great significance to my family is this grand piano. My grandmother had bought it for my mom and my aunt when they were about thirteen years old. They lived in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. My mother and her sister both learned music on this piano and continued to play it for years. In 1985, they moved to the United States to attend college, and they took piano along with them. The piano has stayed in my family ever since. I have known this piano all my life, and it is the only piano that my family has ever owned. After my mother and my aunt, I was the next in the family to learn music on this piano. I have been playing the piano and taking lessons since the first grade. With my piano, I have learned all of my best pieces and have spent many, many hours practicing to perfect them. To this day, it is still in great condition, and I intend to keep it that way. It is one of the few things that my family had brought over with them from Haiti, only making it even more valuable to us. I hope to keep it in the family for many more years and with it have my children someday learn to play music as well.
