The Desk

Group:

The object that has been in my family for a very long time is a secretary, which is basically, a desk.  The desk is made from wood, has glass doors, and a leather desk top.  The object was made in the United States, and it's first owners lived in Springfield, Illinois.  I first heard about the desk from my mom who knows all about it from her mother and grandmother.  The desk originally stayed in the Henson Lyon house, which is one of my relatives from the 1800s.  The Henson Lyon house was located across from the house that Abraham Lincoln lived in.  When I was younger, we had a family reunion and visited the Henson Lyon house and Abraham Lincoln's house.  This object is important to me because it shows the history and American identity of my family.
