temple
My artifact is a temple that we have in my grandpa's apartment. Since I live in the same building as him, this plays a big role in my day-to-day life. Inside the temple, we have pictures of my ancestors and statues of gods. These pictures date back to even before my great-grandparents were born, and my grandpa took these pictures with him when he immigrated with his family to America in 1975. When he moved into the house that he lives in now, (2005) he had the temple built for him. Though I’m not the most religious, I often pray there, and every Diwali my family and I light candles in the temple. My grandpa prays in the temple every day, sometimes more than once. It’s important to me because it brings my family together. When we are all gathered together lighting the candles or praying, we are bonding. When he immigrated to America, my grandpa made sure to bring his culture and traditions. The objects in the temple make my family and I who we are to this day.
