Every time I visited the same cloth lied on the table, over the years it never changed.It stayed heavily protected by a plastic lining to protect it from any potential stains or damage. It is my grandmas biggest project, a piece that properly shows not just her hard work but also her culture. Embroidery in Mexico has a long history, cross stitching specifically began to become popular in Mexico in the early 1900's, especially after the end of Spanish colonization. Different designs were often embroidered, some to show independence from Spanish colonizers. On every thanksgiving, Noche Buena, or birthday we would all gather around the table cloth to eat share stories and laugh together. The cloth is not only an expression of culture, but it also holds so many conversations and memories. To continue the tradition, I have been learning to cross stitch, so far I have made a few much smaller projects myself.
