Sushi

For my project I couldn't find a physical object that pertains to any traditions or symbolic meaning, so I chose a food item that influenced my entire family. I was introduced to sushi when I was growing up, and it affected the way my family and I lived. When my father moved to New York after finishing his education, he started a fish company and sushi restaurant. This was probably because fish are a staple dish in Japan; we always had it for breakfast and dinner. It may sound weird because we all have different cultures, but we eat fish on a daily basis. Throughout my childhood we always went on trips that related to my father's job, such as boat trips and going to fish markets.  Even today, sushi and fish still affect us: my father goes to Japan every so often to get fish for his restaurant. This food has an important meaning to my family and me. Without it my family, and my life decisions, wouldn't have been the same.
