Statuette of Mata Rani

Group:

For my object, I wanted something that I have kept for many years so I instantly thought of my Mata Rani statuette. My grandmother had kept this item for several years and throughout her immigration process to the US in 1950. She stated that this object helped her get through tough times in the past. Mata Rani is the Hindu Goddess of everything with the word “mata”, translating to “mother”. She represents strength, power, wisdom, knowledge, and health. My grandmother kept this statuette for a very long time, and on my first day of school, she handed it off to me, to keep as long as I go through school. And when it is the first day of school for my children, my job is to give it to them. I have kept this object in my backpack every day of school for the last 12 years and I am very fortunate to be given a successful education. I chose this object because I admire how strong it made my grandmother in her process of immigration to the US and I value how it has helped me through so much as well. I would not sell it for the world.
