Sponge Cake

The object or recipe or family recipe I chose is called sponge cake. Sponge cake is from Guyana and it's from my mom’s side of the family. Sponge cake is used for parties, family gatherings and sometimes family meetings. All of our family members from my mom’s side of the family use sponge cake for a snack or sometimes birthday parties.
Sponge cake is made of different kinds of food or ingredients such as eggs, milk and flour. One fact about sponge cake is that it's called sponge cake because it looks like a sponge.
I chose sponge cake because it means a lot to the family. My grandma from my moms side of the family makes it all the time when she comes to NYC or Brooklyn. Sponge cake doesn't really teach you about our culture, the only thing it teaches you is what our family/culture from my mom’s side of the family likes. It also connects to my mom because she was the first child and grandma from my moms side makes it alot.
My grandma did not immigrate to NYC but she visits NYC.  My grandma lives in Orlando, Florida. My mom came to NYC in 2012 I think. A question I might ask my family is: when did you find out sponge cake was a thing and why did you make it and when did you make it? Another question I would ask my family is: what year did you discover sponge cake was a thing?
