Arroz Con Dulce
Arroz con dulce, more familiarly known as rice pudding, is a Puerto Rican dish that is made typically around Christmas time. This special, yummy, sweet dessert has always been made by my grandmother. I specifically remember helping my grandmother make quite a few servings for my 6th-grade culture day. I remember all the happy faces while eating creamy rice pudding. These happy faces are so genuine, they fill my cup. Whenever arroz con dulce is mentioned, I see the light and joy from all my family members and that truly is unique and fulfilling to me. More deeply though, I think this dish specifically reminds me of my grandmother, as it emphasizes the importance of her to me personally. My grandmother came from Puerto Rico, a little after my aunt and mom came over. To get a fresh start at life and opportunities, this dish is a gentle reminder of how my immediate family, for the most part, is here in Lowell.
