South African Coin

My object is a coin from South Africa. It’s used for buying things like food, and water. The people of South Africa use it. All the coins are made of steel unlike here the penny is made from copper. Most coins from South Africa have an animal called an impala on it because that's their main animal. One thousand rand is equal to roughly 76 dollars. Rand is what they use for currency in South Africa.
I chose this because it’s very important to me and, it reminds me of my culture. I’m proud of my culture. It teaches people that 13 rand goes in to 1 dollar. This is connected to the entire South African side of my family. My mom immigrated to the U.S in 1991 November. She won a competition that gave her a visa, a job and a flight to the U.S.
My mother loves America, but her heart belongs to South Africa. We take the trip to South Africa every summer and stay for close to a month. This is how I have spent most of my childhood summers. So, my heart belongs to South Africa too.
