A bracelet with anchor
When my family and I received the news that we were going to move to the United States, we felt a bunch of emotions. In a way, we felt excited and joyful because we were going to make a wonderful journey to another country which has a different culture, values and norms. However, we also felt sad because we would leave our families and the people who saw us grow up. For that reason, the day when we left the Dominican Republic, my friend gave me a bracelet with an anchor. I asked him why he gave me that, what did it mean? He told me that the anchor means that we always should stay connected to our land, our culture and our people. Also he told me that this bracelet would help us to never forget where we come from. Today when I see it, the bracelet evokes homesickness but with it I always will remember where I come from.
