Shoe Maker
These shoe molds were used by my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. It was a tool used to make shoes. It is made of wood and metal shaped like a shoe. He came to America from Northern Italy in the late 1800’s arriving at Ellis Island in New York City. His name was Joseph Carulo. In Italy he was a shoemaker and continued his skills and business in America. He made money by selling the shoes he made, and people were lucky to wear them. When he came to America he did not speak any English and from what family members say he never really learned the English language. Even though he didn’t speak English he still managed to have a successful business.
