Shea Butter is a popular form of moisturizer originating in Africa. As an African American women presentation is everything, with plenty stereotypes about us we have to be mindful of how we present ourselves to the world, skin is a big part of this. Colorism and racism effects the African American community deeply so our parents have to work hard to teach us how to love our skin. From a young age my mother never failed to tell me just how beautiful I was. She taught me how to take care of my hair, my skin and my self esteem. Shea butter played a huge part in how I saw my skin. The shine it gave me as I stepped outside into the sun made me feel as if I was made of gold, the softness it created made me feel as if I was as delicate as a sunflower, shea butter made me feel feminine. Black women arent agressive or inherently masculine, I was a princess. Shea Butter helped me see my skin as something to be proud of, no one could make me feel ashamed. Shea butter is still a part of my everyday routine and every time I put it on I still feel like that delicate sunflower I felt like years ago. Skin is a pressing subject for the African American community and learning how to love your skin is an essential part of growing up for us, this product is what helped my family with our growth.
