My maternal great-grandfather was a photographer in 1970s Shanghai, China. He worked hard to make money to support my grandfather's dreams of attending medical school and becoming a doctor. My grandfather saved up money from his career as a well-known, local doctor to send my mother to the United States of America in 1997 and later emigrate to the United States himself in 2000. My mother found inspiration from my grandfather, her father, and became a nurse. After moving to the United States, my parents met and had me. Everything that I know today, America my home, is all because my great-grandfather worked hard to my grandfather, his son, through medical school with whatever funds he could.
