The picture shows how everyone is wearing several types of salwar kameez with beautiful work on it. It was my cousin's wedding in New Jersey.  I am wearing a purple lehenga. It has a small shirt and long skirt embroidered on it with a beautiful dupatta hanging on my right side. In another picture, my brother and my cousin with his friends are wearing green shalwar kameez and pink chunari(dupatta).

Pakistanis wear shalwar kameez not only at weddings but also in everyday life. Even though we are in the U.S. we still wear shalwar kameez at home. The shalwar kameez originated in the Punjab region of South Asia and has spread to many parts of the world: The shalwar kameez is thought to have originated in the 13th century when Muslims brought the style to South Asia by Mughals. My cultural custom is to wear shalwar kameez on Ramadan, on Eid, or on Friday's religious services. You will receive a matching scarf to wear with your Shalwar Kameez. The dress is a kameez, and the pants are shalwar. The cloth of the shalwar is flowy and thin, but the kameez is heavier.

The shalwar kameez I wore was stitched by my mother and she embroidered most of my shalwar kameez with silk, woolen, and cotton threads. It looked beautiful. It always brought a smile to my father’s face to see me in the traditional garb.
