Sambosa

Relationship: Child of im/migrant

A traditional middle eastern food that is popular during the Islamic month of Ramadan is a food called sambosa. Sambosa is a tasty triangular meat filled food. It doesn't matter what race you are, if you are fasting from dawn till sunset during Ramadan, you will most likely eat a sambosa after you break your fast with a date. Before my parents moved to America from Yemen, a country in the middle east, they enjoyed eating sambosa everyday with their family and friends during ramadan. They would always be at the comfort of their close relatives and friends. However, now that they are in America, they have lost their friends and family back home and feel really lonely in America. Eating sombosa wasn't always about enjoying the traditional food, it was about socializing with family and keeping the family closer. Now that my parents have been in America long enough, they now have all their children to share those same experiences as back home in Yemen. Sambosa has made my parents relationships close back home and now in America with their children.
