Soup Joumou It is a well known dish in the Haitian community that  represents a lot to us . We have this tradition of making this soup every New Year Eve/New Year.this  soup is prepared by Haitian slaves and was a delicacy to the French masters. Slaves were not allowed to eat things until January 1 1804. After the revolution , the freed slaves would then make and enjoy this soup as a reminder of the freedom they fought for . Becoming the first freed country from slavery.
Joumou Soup  main ingredients are: squash, beef, potatoes, malanga, and green vegetables like cabbage, celery, and at time have pasta added. The soup is always served hot and is sometimes accompanied with a sliced bread which dipped in the soup. The spice is really dependent our preference or the chefs preferences.

I love this part of my culture because it brings me much pride . To not only see how hard we fight to get out independence but to also be the first to do so ever is inspiring . It lead to other place to want to gain their freedom .
