My special object is a prayer mat known as a sali. This mat first originated from the religious prophet Mohammed. This special mat represents the Islamic religion because it is clean and purified which can only be prayed on. My family’s American story began in 1999 when my mom first came here at the age of 22. She migrated from Somalia due to fights and the war. That is why that story is special for me. My mom carried the mat when she came to America.
