Ruby and Diamond gold ring
I have never met my great-grandmother from my dad’s side of the family. She died before I was born, but I often hear stories of how she was an amazing woman who enjoyed spending time with family, and I am told I resemble her and her personality. Her migration story started in Albertlee. Her parents were field workers and settled in Albertlee in the 1920’s. Consuelo A Gomez was born on July 31, 1929. She enjoyed her life on the farm with her many sisters and brothers. When my great-grandmother was very young, 14 years old, her mother passed away. As the oldest daughter, she took on many of the responsibilities for her siblings and the home. A few years after her mother's passing, her father remarried, and this is around the same time she decided to move. She moved to St. Paul in the 1950’s. Here is where she met my great-grandfather at a dance. She always enjoyed dressing up. My mother often tells a story of how my great-grandmother wore rings on every finger. When my great-grandmother was ill, she decided that she was going to give her jewelry away while she was still alive. My mother was one of the lucky people who gave a beautiful ring before her passing. It is a ruby and diamond gold ring, the ring almost reminds me of a flower. My mother wears it often, and each time she wears this piece of jewelry, she will either share a story of my great-grandmother or admire the beautiful ring. Now every time I see this ring, I also think of her. One day, hopefully, my mother will pass this on to one of her children.
