Royal Tara China Tea Set
My great grandmother purchased this tea set on a trip back to Ireland in the 1950’s, from previously going back and forth for the past decade. After moving to New York, this tea set could make her happy when she became homesick. There’s a funny story among my mother’s family regarding it. My great grandmother had to smuggle the tea set on the boat to America, after visiting Ireland. It sat in my great grandmother’s china closet and was only used once a year on a holiday. Her daughter, my grandmother, took the tea set when my great grandmother passed away without letting the rest of the family know and for many years it was a mystery as to where it went. Meanwhile my mother and her sisters played with the tea set in tea parties when they were younger. This tea set is now in my family’s home and is used only once a year on St. Patrick’s day, when we have our own “tea party” celebrating the holiday.
