Red Envelope
Red Envelope

The object tells a personal story because when my mother immigrated to the United States, she had a red envelope in her bag and she’s had it ever since I keep it in my bag everyday. The object has been passed down to me from my mother. This object had been brought from my mothers mainland of China. The object does relate to my family’s immigration history as mentioned earlier, they wanted to have a better life for themselves and then eventually birthed my brother and I. This object does relate to my cultural identity because it follows old Asian tradition/culture. The materials that make my object does not mean anything as far as I know but the color that the red envelope is made of symbolizes good luck and wishes. The object definitely does connect to a lager story others can relate to because it is widely known in the Asian culture as a gift or at least in Chinese culture to put money inside and give it to kids or elders.
