Pupusa
My grandma was born and raised in El Salvador. As a young girl her family would save up money for a special occasion every year which happened to be her birthday. They saved money to buy the ingredients to make stacks and stacks of pupusas. One day for her birthday she wished she could learn how to make them and she did. She was only twenty when the civil war had started and couldn't cook due to the destruction of the country. She left to the United States and had to leave behind her two sons. Eventually her two sons immigrated to the United States as well and that is what inspired her to cook again. Years of practice had perfected her skills. Now on my birthday every year she makes stacks of pupusas and this year coming up she is going to teach me how to make them so I could teach my family in my future.
