Pillow Tapestry
My great grandparents were immigrants from Eastern Europe. Before they came to America they sent on a boat, a burgundy velvet pillow with an intricate tapestry on the front. The pillow dates back to the 1830s and is about 190 to 200 years old. The needle point design has beautiful vivid colors and looks like work that could be done in the present day. It is made from silk and yarn, and is in very good condition. When my grandparents came to America they got the pillow and turned it into just a tapestry. It is said that someone in the family made it, which makes it so sacred. When my great grandparents passed away it got passed on to my grandma. My grandma has it hanging in her dining room to be observed and tell a story. The piece shows how certain keepsakes were treasured and how the history of my family is so important. I will forever cherish the tapestry and will continue telling the story it has to tell. #tapestry #artwork #family #history #miscellaneous
