This picture of the Virgin Mary has been with my family since before they immigrated to the U.S. to have a better life. They brought this image with them because they wanted to bring something from their old life to their new life. They also brought it to protect our family through the journey. Since I was born, I've seen this picture hanging on the wall of our home and it's the only one that doesn't get replaced by other photos even when we move to a different house. After my mom told me the reason why she never takes it down or replaces it, I began to understand why she still has it up. Now every time I look at the pictures around the house, this is the only one that stands out to me because of its story.
