Chinese Incense
These are Chinese incenses. My family uses these for Chinese ancestor worship. My mother was always proud of my grandfather and showed great reverence for him. My grandfather worked hard for his family, undertaking arduous tasks, such as building a home from scratch, for the sake of his family. I was told, my grandfather always had a soft spot for my mother, as she was the youngest, and they formed very deep connection. Every time she returns to Hong Kong, she goes back to our village, and near our village, is a shrine where people go to worship their ancestors. She will bring food and objects, that my grandfather was fond of, to appease his spirit. She will then light the incenses and shake and bow three times at his grave and stick the incenses in a jar of ashes. Although he is no longer here with us, we believe his spirit lives on and worship him.
