My objects are my grandma’s (Yia Yia’s) pictures of South Africa (where my grandma comes from). These pictures are black and white. With having two grandparents that were born and raised in other countries (South Africa and Greece),  and immigrated to the U.S as adults, there are many important objects that my grandparents brought to America. These are some of those objects.
These pictures show Cape Peninsula in Southern Cape Town (also known as the Cape of Good Hope where the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean meet), protected lions in Kruger National Park ,and Victoria Falls which some call one on the Seven Wonders of the World.  These pictures help me remember that Yia Yia had an amazing life both in America and South Africa. One story my family tells about her is that when she was young, she had a tiny monkey that fit into her pocket. One day she snuck it into school and she got in trouble because it bit another student.
These pictures connect me to my South African culture because it reminds me of Grandma who passed away before I was born. Also, many of my friends are super American so it’s cool to have something that sets me apart from many of them.
