My mom came to the United States in 1995. She was 19 years old. She is one of eight siblings, but she only had two kids. She didn't want to have more because she was not financially secure, and she wanted to give us a more stable life than she had. She spent all of her life working because her parents couldn't afford to send her to school. Instead, she worked on her parent's farm. When she arrived here she worked in factories and low-paying jobs, basically anything that would get her through all of it.
