My great-grandfather in his army uniform during WWII.

My great grandfather’s name was Thomas Jukes. Thomas fought in World War II. I own an old black & white picture of him in his army uniform taken back in the early forties. This object is one of the only pictures I have of him and this is how I know him. In the photo, he is wearing a British World War Two uniform. The picture sits behind a slab of glass. It is pretty small, and it is black and white. He sits on my bookshelf in my room. I feel like no matter where I go, he is always looking at me. He looks like a normal young man. He isn’t exactly smiling, but he isn’t frowning either. The photograph isn’t very big, but I still notice it when I walk past it. The photo is a very important object to me. He was from England, so he fought for the English. This was passed down to me from my parents, who got it from my grandparents. I was named after him, and I wish I was able to see him in person. This photo also reminds me of my British background because this was taken in England. The main reason this picture is so special is that I never met my great-grandfather. He died sometime in 2003 before I was born. When I wake up every day, I see him there staring back at me. He inspires me every day to be the best that I can be in every aspect of my life.
