Photo of Bishop Thomas Quinlan
My great-grandpa immigrated to the U.S from Ireland and was a Bishop. He immigrated from County Tipperary and when he came to America he came on a boat and was with his entire family. Before he arrived, he attended Saint Patrick’s College in Thurles where he studied for his Priesthood. After, he joined the Columbian Fathers where he became ordained a Roman Catholic Priest. Later that year, he was sent to Han-Yang province in China where he was stationed in North Korea. He then served and was sent back to Ireland and sent back to Korea again. In Korea, he then died on New Years' Eve in 1970.
My object is a picture of my great grandfather from 1970. This picture is very wrinkly and fragile. My family does not show it very often because it is very fragile and my mom values it. When I touch the picture I feel honored to be a part of his heritage and to know that he was once part of something that I am a part of now.
