My object is a Persian rug that is in my apartment. It is the same rug that my mom had in her room when she was a little kid. It is special to me because it reminds me of my Iranian heritage. My mom moved to the united states when she was 4 because of the Islamic revolution. As jews, it was no longer safe for them to stay in Iran, but they were able to salvage many objects such as this rug. These Persian rugs are often made by young girls because it takes someone with small hands to do such intricate work. I can only imagine how exhausting it must've been for them to create one. Rugs are very important to Iranian culture and are highly valued because they are known to be among the finest rugs in the world. When I see the rug I feel a connection to Iran and it's culture and to my grandparents and ancestors.
