Pearl Necklace
My object is an old pearl necklace that my grandmother got. I’m not sure when exactly she got it, but it was in China somewhere around 1974 - 1984, when she was in her 20’s or 30’s. After some time, she passed it on to my mother. My mother brought it with her when my family immigrated to the U.S., and we still have it now.
The necklace has many pinkish - goldish pearls that are not perfectly round on it. Some are flat, some are tall, but all are smooth and cool to the touch. The pearls are naturally formed, which is not common today. Also, the clip on the necklace is like a button, not a hook. This is also very unusual today.
Me and my parents were born in China, but we immigrated to the U.S in early 2017 because of my dad’s work. I think my mom’s dad’s dad was Mongolian, but other than that all my other family members are Chinese and have lived only in China.
