These pearl earrings aren't an artifact, but pearls are very important to my family. Pearls were my Grandmother and my Mom’s favorite type of stones, especially to have in jewelry. When my mom was deciding what to name me she found a name that she really liked, which is now my name. The significance of that is that my name is the Ancient Greek word for pearl. My Mom always talks to me about how much she loves pearls and how much my Grandmother would wear them. My mom says that she still has some pairs of my Grandmother’s pearls in necklaces, earrings, or pins. I didn’t really know about all of this until I was a bit older and then once I found out all these special stories and meanings, I have always felt even closer with my name and with my Mom and my Grandmother. I also had an extremely close family friend who I was really close with who always wore pearls and she even has a book about her life and the title references pearls. I always knew about her love for pearls and my Mom’s as well, but I never really knew how much my Grandmother loved them until my Mom told me when I was older. Whenever I look at pearls or wear them I always feel so connected to them and my family. So those are the reasons why I chose this artifact to show how special they are to me and to my family.
