“In 1955, I was living in England when my friend Margaret and I obtained working visas to work for 6 months in America. It was on a beach in Long Island that I met the man who would become my husband and the reason why I returned to New York a year later permanently. I cannot imagine what my life would have been like if I had not come to America because I would not have had the family that I now have. I have come to take for granted certain things in America that don’t exist or were slow to come about in England.”
