Nicaraguan Rocking Chair
This is a rocking chair made in Nicaragua where a lot of my mother's side of the family lives. My Grandpa is 50% Nicaraguan while my mother is 25%. This makes me 12.5 % Nicaraguan. My great grandma immigrated from Nicaragua to the United States. I have many family members out in Nicaragua that I would love to meet one day. My mom has been to Nicaragua many times throughout her life, and my mom hopes she can bring me to Nicaragua one day as well. When growing up, my mother had one of these Nicaraguan rocking chairs in her living room and she always found it interesting and loved the feeling this family oriented chair gave. For that reason, my mom really wanted one for herself in her house. Unfortunately, these rocking chairs are only hand made in Nicaragua so it's almost impossible to get one of these to the United states. During my mothers wedding, my uncle Ernesto, who lives in Nicaragua, surprised my mother with two of these rocking chairs knowing she really wanted one. Now we have two of these rocking chairs in our living room which represent our family history. I always took this family artifact that lived in my living room for all these years for granted and never knew the story behind it. I only learned recently from my mother what the significance of this chair and how much it meant to our family. It's crazy to think about something like this, this rocking chair was so insignificant in my life yet has such a deep history to it and represents my family.
