Necklace

In Attire

The item that I selected is a necklace that has been passed down through multiple generations of my family. It has been traced back as far as my great-great-grandmother. My great-grandparents met in America after separately emigrating from Italy, and this necklace was gifted to my great-grandmother from my great-grandfather’s mother as an engagement gift. It was meant as a way to welcome my great-grandmother into the family. It skipped a generation after that and was passed on to my mother. Her grandmother (my great-grandmother) gave it to her as a child as a way to show my mother that she was just as much a part of this family as anyone else, even though she was adopted. Currently, the necklace is in my possession. My mother made the decision to pass it on to me several years ago when my grandfather passed away. She knew how close my grandfather and I were, so she had no doubts that her family would want me to have the necklace. I was so honored and felt the unconditional love that was attached to this necklace.
