The tradition my family has is that during the holidays, my grandma bakes cookies, cakes, and other baked goods and sends them to family and friends. This tradition is special to my family because it gives us a way to show love and stay connected, even when we cannot all be together during the holidays. - The story behind this tradition is that my family has always lived in different parts of the country. Many of us live in places such as New York, North Carolina, Dallas, and Miami. Because everyone has different jobs, schdules, and responsibilities, it can be difficult for the whole family to get together for Christmas and other holidays. My great-grandma started sending cookies, cakes, and other baked goods to family members who lived far away.
- This tradition also shows an important part of what being American means to my family: staying connected and supporting your family, even when you are separated. America is a large country, and families often move to different places for school, jobs, or other opportunities. My family’s tradition shows that distance does not have to separate people emotionally.
- One broader theme connected to this tradition is opportunity. The reason much of my family is scattered across the country is because different family members moved to different places for better job opportunities. Even though these opportunities have taken us farther apart, our tradition helps keep us connected and reminds us where we come from.
