This is Cape Verde.
This is Cape Verde.

Let's first get into my mother's lineage. My mother's parents were born and raised in Cape Verde. They then welcomed my mother into the world (along with her other half-siblings). However, the call of opportunity and a better life led my grandmother and her kids to pack their belongings and set for America around I believe, 1981. My mother was a mere toddler at the time.
Upon their arrival, they made Scituate, Massachusetts their home for a while. They moved around quite a lot and stayed in Dorchester Massachusetts, for a while, but it was a change they embraced for the sake of their dreams for my mom.

Now, let's turn our attention to my father's lineage. Like my mother's parents, my father's parents and himself were also born in Cape Verde. However, his journey to America was undertaken when he was in his early preteen years (about 12). This was a significant time in his life, a period of transition and exploration. He adapted to the language  and lifestyle pretty easily.
Upon his arrival in America, he made Brockton, Massachusetts his home. He spent almost his entire life in this city.

My parents, two souls from contrasting backgrounds, met each other in their early twenties. Their paths crossed in Brockton, MA, which would later become my birthplace and childhood home. I have spent my entire life in this city.
