My Mother's Box of Memories
Everyone talks about inheriting a gift from their parents because they want memories to pass on to the family. My family never had anything to pass on.
Recently when I visited Mexico, my mom asked me to look for her jewelry box. It’s an ordinary wooden box When I found it, it was full of necklaces, rings, bracelets, golden coins and a photo of my older brother when he was a baby. I tried on the jewelry to see how it looked like. The jewelry is really beautiful. When I returned, my mom explained to me that it was the jewelry she wore as she grew up, and the golden coins were for her wedding day. The she said that she wanted to pass it on to me when I grew up. This made me very excited and a bit emotional.
My mother isn’t the sentimental type, so this means a lot. The box is also full of memories in Mexico, a place she misses so much, and she trusts me to care for it. This means a lot to me and I find it an honor for her to do this. If possible, I want to add my own jewelry and pass it on to my daughter because that’s what my mom will do.
