My Mother
My name is Rosa Bocanegra de Solano. I am from Perú. I came to New York City on January 11, 2018. I am an intermediate student at the ESOL Immigrant Service Program at Sunnyside Community Services. My history is about my parents who are very admirable persons. In their senior years, they got the opportunity to immigrate to this country along with my grandmother, who was already an alien resident of this country. At the beginning, they were living at my aunt`s home in Woodside, Queens.
Eventually my parents saw that in this country they were able to pursue their dreams of being still productive so, they have started working to make a living. Even though, they had mixed feelings; they decided to overcome the fact of leaving many things behind, like the family their house, their friends, their costumes, to try the new adventure together. After some years, they agreed that my father had to go back to my country to take care of some family issues. My mother stayed and moved to New Jersey, where she went to college to learn English and got a better job. She also was able to study to be a Home Attendant. When I used to come here to visit her. I used to feel very proud of her, because I saw her compromise with her job; her energy and dynamism and all that things made still make me see her as my best role-model-ever. After spending several years in the USA, she was able to retire! She went back home to Perú, where, she lives now; and she is enjoying her family again.
