My Great-Great-Grandma’s Doll
My great-great-grandmother Johanna Alander immigrated from Poland to America in 1903. She traveled here with her husband John Alander. Though, many more “Alanders” immigrated here nearly 300 years before them, Johanna and John are much more significant to me. My middle name is taken from her directly, Johanna sits in between “Kaylin” and “Rhodes.” The picture shows a doll given to me four years ago by my grandmother Pauline Keller. This doll is important to me not only because it is an heirloom that I’ll pass on to my children, but also because it was passed down directly from Johanna to me. The doll’s age is unknown but it can be estimated to be over 110 years old. I hope to be able to continue her legacy by passing down this Polish heirloom that came to me four years ago.
